The Level 2 Economics course, DD202 - Economics and Economic Change, which is mandatory if you are studying for a PPE, is running for the last time in Feb 2012.
This will be replaced by DD209 - Running the Economy (Note: this is not Ruining The Economy) which will run for the first time in October 2013.
This, for me, is far more helpful as it means that I can finish DD203 in June and start DD209 in October, rather than have to try and study for two level 2 courses at the same time, or alternatively have a 8 month break from study.

SO so so so happy to hear about DD209 - in particular because I heard too many scary things about DD202 but mostly for the same reason as you, I can only fit in (or afford) one course at a time and that February start date was baffling and disappointing. :)
Yeah, it makes much more sense to go with an October start. The lady who seems to be designing the new course is Prof Maureen Mackintosh (see link below). I think it is great doing new courses as the thinking and themes are as up to date and relevant as possible. Economics is my main interest so can't wait to start it.

How did you find out that DD202 is going to be replaced by DD209? I've tried to look for information like that before and the OU kept saying that they did not have any info :S
I wrote to my OU Course support and they told me about this.
Also if you check out http://www.open.ac.uk/socialsciences/staff/people-profile.php?name=Cristina_Santos & http://www.open.ac.uk/socialsciences/staff/people-profile.php?name=Maureen_Mackintosh it says that Prof Maureen Macintosh and Ms Cristina Santos are currently working on the production of the new level 2 Economics module DD209 Running the Economy.
Try Googling "DD209 - Running the Economy" - hope this helps.
Hello
I have missed out on the Feb deadline for DD202 :(
not very happy with myself, I really wanted to pick up an economics module, however, what were your thoughts on the course and do you think waiting for the October DD209 is in fact better?
best
Nick
Hi Nick,
I haven't done DD202 and was never that interested in doing that course, partly because of the timing of the start of the course, but also because the course was drawing to a close and the teaching materials and case studies would have been out of date.
With all that has happened 'ecomonically' in the last 5 years I will be happier looking at a new course, even though there are bound to be teething problems, so I intend to do DD209 next October.
I'm afraid I can't really be of any more help than that.
